Text Link Ads, Ethical or Unethical?

Text link ads are very popular because they allow website operators to link their pages together to get the most traffic on all of their current pages.  Text link ads also allow website operators to place links on the pages of other websites, increasing traffic and client base, which will earn them more money.  At a time where search engine optimization is crucial to making money on the Internet, text link ads can make or break many websites.  If your website isn’t a household name, then chances are that you can benefit from placing text link ads on your website, selling text link ad space, or even buying text link ads on the website of others.  Text link ads are another form of marketing that interests the reader enough to click from one page to the next, which can be very profitable for you.

Are You Buying Your Way To The Top?

Many old school website operators believe that when you buy text link ads on a number of websites you are buying your way to the top.  Yes, text link ads are quite controversial but because we are all in business for ourselves, we do it by any means necessary.  And, just like Pepsi and Coke have to buy ad space during the Super Bowl, we buy ad space on other relevant websites.  It just makes sense to target a certain type of traffic to our websites.  Do text link ads help with search engine optimization?  Overall, yes.  But, they may not forever.  If you are simply trying to find a way to get traffic right now because you feel as though you have a quality site that people will return to, text link ads are the way to go.   Eventually, search engines might be able to tell when you have bought a link and so your website will not be given any credit or rank for that particular link. 

If you don’t feel as though text link ads are unethical, the majority of web site operators believe it’s worth a portion of your time to drive traffic through these means.  If you’d rather spend time on reciprocal text link exchanges, that’ll work, too!  The more quality sites your page is linked to, in whatever manner, will increase your current page rank.  So, do what you have to do!
